What are Fast Tread stairs?

Fast Tread stairs are a permanent formwork system for concrete stairs in multi-level builds.

The ‘stairmaster’ style stairs are shop drawn and custom manufactured to your architect’s and engineer’s specifications, reducing the potential for error and increasing install speed.

Made from galvanised steel, Fast Tread stairs are manufactured in Australia and delivered to site. Add Safe-T-Tread, our temporary treads, for safe, instant access to upper levels while limiting damage to risers. Once installed, the stairs are core filled and can be left as they are, or finished with tiles, carpet or paint. Choose from a range of handrail options, installed before or after core fill, all complying to BCA regulations.

Fast Tread stairs have already been installed in over 1,000 projects across Australia and internationally. That’s over 220,000 risers and countless hours saved!

Where can I use Fast Tread stairs?

Fast Tread stairs work perfectly in any multi-level build.

  •  Fire Stairs
  •  Profile Cut Stringers

Fast Tread stairs are an ideal solution for fire stairs as they’re quick to install, can have handrails already attached and are BCA compliant. They speed up the installation of any fire stairs, including egress stairs, fire isolated stairs and scissor stairs.

Where a more aesthetic finish is required, Fast Tread is ideal. Fast Tread’s profile cut stringers can be customised to suit any project – whether they be finished with tiles or carpet, timber or paint.

How is Fast Tread made and installed?

Only through reliability, integrity and experience can we build trust with our clients.

That’s why we take the accuracy and quality of our product very seriously. We apply significant attention to detail to every step of the construction and installation process.

SHOP DRAWINGS & SCHEDULING

We shop draw your Fast Tread stairs based on your engineer’s specifications and construction drawings. All measurements are double checked prior to scheduling your stairs for production.

PRODUCTION

Down to the millimetre, we manufacture your stairs to the shop drawings, ensuring they’re ready when you need them.

DELIVERY

We deliver your stairs direct to your site or yard. Each one is clearly labelled with its location ID.

INSTALLATION & BRACING

Your stairs are installed and braced one level at a time. They require less propping than conventional formwork – making the install faster and safer. Handrails can be fitted prior to installation giving immediate edge protection.

REINFORCEMENT

Fast Tread stairs come with reinforcement pre-welded into the flight to your engineer’s specifications. Your steel fixer provides the lapping reinforcement to the landings and slabs.

UPPER LEVEL ACCESS

Place in Safe-T-Tread, our temporary tread system, to provide safe and instant access to upper levels prior to core fill. When you’re ready to core fill, simply remove the treads and keep them for your next level.

CORE FILL

Fast Tread stairs are typically core filled with the slab above. Fast Tread stairs have a screed fold in the riser for the concreter to screed to, ensuring 100% level treads.

HANDRAIL BENDS

Once the stair shaft is stripped of formwork and lights are installed, our Fast Tread Site Linkage Team will weld the connection between handrails on your site, making the handrails continuous and BCA compliant.

What are the Fast Tread handrail options?

To reach BCA compliance, hand rails are required on one or both sides of your Fast Tread stairs, depending on their design.

We offer four options to meet requirements for fire isolated and main access stairways.

All handrails are manufactured in heavy-duty galvanised OD tubular hollow section with our main access handrail (Vertical Picket) being hot dip galvanised for ultimate durability and longevity.

3 Rail – the standard choice for handrails in fire stair applications. Placed into position prior to installation and core fill, they provide immediate edge protection.

Wall Mount – fixed to the dividing or outer concrete or masonry wall of your stairwell using Fast Tread proprietary mounting brackets. Installed after core fill, they provide a clean, attractive finish to the stairwell.

Single Rail – a single continuous handrail fixed to the stairs with posts, used when dividing or outer walls don’t exist, as an alternative to wall-mounted handrails.

Vertical Picket – the most aesthetic choice and ideal for non-enclosed fire stairs, egress stairs and public access stairs, they’re also placed into position prior to installation and core fill, providing immediate edge protection.
